Why Does a Skin Cycle Matter?

Why Does a Skin Cycle Matter?

The best time to start routine skin care was yesterday. The next best time is now.

What is a Skin Cycle?

Simply put, the skin renewal cycle is our body's natural process for generating fresh skin cells to replace the dead cells on the skin's surface. During this process, a new skin cell is formed at the deepest layer of the epidermis and works its way up to the surface of the skin. This is when the skin cell has matured and old skin flakes off to reveal underneath.

How long is my skin's cycle?

The length of a skin cycle can vary with each individual and is affected by factors such as age, hormones, stress, and underlying health. On average, a skin cycle is about 4 weeks (hint: that lines up perfectly with a monthly facial). As we age, this skin cycle starts to slow down closer to about 45-60 days. Routine facials and targeted treatments are designed to help us shed dead skin cells faster, which maintains skin renewal on a regular basis.

Why should I care about skin renewal?

Your skin is your largest organ and says a lot about your overall health! As we age, our skin cycle slows down and dead cells accumulate quicker on the surface of skin. This leads to sagging, dry skin, and fine lines and wrinkles. Bacteria can become trapped under our skin causing blemishes, breakouts, and skin discoloration. Therefore, it is important to take care of your skin barrier and routinely exfoliate dead skin cells. The right skin care products will also accelerate your cellular turnover and keep fresh new skin cells flourishing.

How soon can I see results from my skincare routine?

Consistency is key! When starting a new skin care routine, you may need to wait 1-3 skin cycles to truly notice full results. This gives product and routine treatments time to work on making changes to the cell’s underlying health and vitality, rather than just masking symptoms at the surface. By maintaining an average 28-day replacement cycle through healthy lifestyle choices and a regular skin care routine that addresses the basics of skin, your skin will maintain a natural glow.
